Osei Assibey Antwi, the former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), has obtained an additional modification of his bail terms. On Thursday, December 11, the High Court lowered the bail amount from GH¢630 million to GH¢120 million with two sureties.
The most recent ruling comes after attorneys for the former NSA chief, who is on trial for alleged theft, money laundering, and financial damage to the state while serving as the Authority’s CEO, filed an application.
Prior to Thursday’s additional reduction, Mr. Antwi was first given a bail of GH¢800 million, which was then reviewed to GH¢630 million. The two sureties must provide GH¢80 million worth of landed property as justification under the revised provisions.
All other bail requirements, such as having his passport seized and being added to the no-flight list, are still in effect.
Prosecutors had contested the motion, claiming that the initial bail terms were reasonable due to the seriousness of the allegations, which could result in sentences of up to 25 years for stealing.
However, defense attorneys maintained that the prior amounts were unachievable and amounted to a bail denial.
