President John Dramani Mahama voiced his profound concern when speaking at the Presidency during a courtesy call from a group of Mamprugu Chiefs who had come to congratulate him on his victory in 2024.
“Bawku, once a thriving commercial hub, is now a pale shadow of itself. Nobody is happy about this situation,” the president said.
Noting the conflict’s toll on everyone in the region and on national peace, he denounced the sight of armed youngsters and the professional migration.
“I commend Naa-Yiri, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, for the concessions you are willing to make in order to see lasting peace in Bawku,” he said, urging all stakeholders to “speed up the mediation process.”
The government is still totally dedicated to maintaining security and encouraging communication.
“We believe that peace in Bawku is a matter of national importance and requires our collective resolve,” he reiterated.
