A manhunt for armed robbers responsible for a deadly attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region has been initiated by the Central East Regional Police Command.
According to reports, the event happened on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when a group of armed individuals wearing masks attacked a mobile money vendor at the market, fired randomly, and then ran away.
The suspects fled into a nearby thicket before a group of police officers showed up to start investigations, according to a statement from the police.
The mobile money vendor, Hamisu Abdulai, and another victim were shot during the assault, according to preliminary investigations. The two were sent to a neighbouring polyclinic for treatment.
But because of how serious their wounds were, they were eventually sent to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for more care.
The second victim, whose identity has not been revealed, is receiving treatment, according to police, while Hamisu Abdulai was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to the statement, authorities found one live BB cartridge and fourteen spent rounds at the scene. To aid in current research, the exhibits have been kept.
The public was reassured by the Central East Regional Police Command that it would find, apprehend, and prosecute the attackers.
The police also urged anyone with reliable information that might result in the suspects’ arrest to report to the closest police station or call Police Emergency Numbers 191 or 18555.
