President John Mahama has arrived in Brussels as a key supporter of the GAVI Vaccine Alliance’s efforts to restock, with the goal of obtaining vital money to vaccinate millions of children globally.

Attending the Global Summit on Health and Prosperity through Immunization, which is being co-hosted by GAVI, the European Union, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is the Ghanaian leader.

The summit aims to rally support for GAVI’s 2026–2030 plan, which aims to avoid 8 million deaths, vaccinate 500 million more children, and mitigate 150 disease outbreaks, all of which will generate over $100 billion in economic benefits.

Longtime vaccine advocate President Mahama emphasized the value of international cooperation in guaranteeing fair vaccine availability, especially for lower-income countries.

“A fully funded GAVI will save lives, boost economies, and fortify global health security,” he stated.

He has already advocated for the cause. He was instrumental in galvanizing support for GAVI’s life-saving programs in 2013.

GAVI has prevented 18.8 million lives, vaccinated nearly a billion children, and helped disadvantaged countries earn $250 billion in economic benefits since its launch in 2000.

In order to reaffirm pledges to universal immunization, President Mahama will meet with important players during his tour, such as philanthropist and European Council President Bill Gates.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president’s spokesperson, affirmed his commitments, highlighting Ghana’s ongoing leadership in promoting global health justice.
