President John Dramani Mahama cut sod for an ultra-modern 24-hour market in Bole, Savannah Region, characterising the initiative as a big economic game changer for the area and nearby people.

Speaking at a brief ceremony in Bole, President Mahama stated that the market is part of the government’s nationwide 24-hour economy plan, which aims to stimulate trade, agriculture, and local economic activities across the country.

He stated that 261 model markets are anticipated to be built nationwide, with Bole receiving the “biggest” category of the project.

“This is going to be one of the busiest markets in the whole of Ghana because of its location,” he stated.

Mahama commended the Bole Traditional Council and inhabitants for yielding prime land for the project, saying that the sacrifices, which included the demolition of some existing properties, would benefit future generations.

According to the President, the market will give farmers a contemporary way to sell goods like maize, yams, groundnuts, beans, and vegetables while also promoting economic activity by continuously moving money around the neighbourhood.

He claims that the facility will be open around-the-clock and will have a number of contemporary features intended to enhance security, cleanliness, healthcare, and convenience for vendors and clients.

Important Features

The market will consist of:

71 lockable shops on the ground floor

61 additional lockable shops upstairs

132 open sheds for traders

Warehouses and cold stores

A police post and fire station

A clinic and pharmacy

Toilet and shower facilities

A lorry terminal and parking area for heavy trucks

Restaurants and shopping spaces

A daycare centre for traders’ children

A women’s bank branch

Guest rooms for traders travelling from distant communities

Mahama clarified that the market would also feature a continuous water supply system, contemporary waste disposal technologies, and a meat shop specifically for butchers.

“Aside from providing a market for agricultural produce, it will help money circulate within the community and help Bole prosper economically,” he said.

A new Bole College of Education, a district hospital, roads, water systems, a TVET center, and a planned University of Science and Technology are just a few of the development initiatives Mahama announced for the Savannah Region during the event.

He was optimistic that many of the projects will be finished before his mandate expires in 2028.
