The total value of secured credit advanced and registered in Ghana reached GH¢31.5 billion in the second quarter of 2026, representing a significant increase in lending activity, according to the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The figure was contained in the central bank’s Second Quarter Brief on the 2026 Collateral Registry, which showed that secured credit increased by 73.4 per cent year-on-year compared with the GH¢18.2 billion recorded during the same period in 2025.
Banks Lead Ghana’s Secured Credit Market
Banks accounted for the largest share of the secured credit market in Ghana during the second quarter of 2026.
According to the Bank of Ghana report, banks registered secured credit worth approximately GH¢19.9 billion, representing 63.1 per cent of the total value of secured credit recorded during the quarter.
The amount represents a 36.6 per cent increase compared with the GH¢14.5 billion registered by banks in the second quarter of 2025.
The figures highlight the continued dominance of commercial banks in Ghana’s secured lending and credit financing sector.
Other Lenders Register GH¢8.3 Billion
Other lending institutions also made a significant contribution to Ghana’s secured transactions market during the period.
The Bank of Ghana reported that other lenders registered secured credit valued at approximately GH¢8.3 billion, accounting for 26.3 per cent of the total secured credit value recorded in the second quarter of 2026.
The increase in secured lending points to continued activity within Ghana’s financial services and credit market, with banks and other lenders providing financing backed by collateral.

The Bank of Ghana Collateral Registry plays an important role in Ghana’s credit market by supporting the registration of security interests used to secure loans and other forms of financing.
The latest figures provide an indication of the scale of secured lending in Ghana and the growing value of credit registered through the Collateral Registry.
