The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) has expressed its sorrow over the passing of Paul Dodzi, one of its members.

According to reports, the deceased rotational nurse committed suicide at Asankragua in the Western Region.

The RNMA explained in a statement released on Sunday, May 14, 2023 that the deceased “completed Bawku Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery and was posted to the church of God hospital in Esieninpong in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to do his rotation.”

It was observed that the deceased “lost both parents in his second year of his nursing training college, according to the facts available. Additionally, while college, his peers used to contribute, cover a portion of his expenses, and provide him with handouts.

The association also disclosed that, prior to his passing, the deceased frequently “lamented” about how other association members’ allowances went unpaid and how “tough” life was for him. This psychological toll eventually led to the deceased’s suicide on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in a “uncompleted building.”

Therefore, the RNMA leadership is requesting that the Ministry of Finance give the Ministry of Health “Financial clearance” so that the payment of their allowances can commence as soon as possible.

We are frustrated by the situation because so many impacted people struggle to get to work and make ends meet. Since their deployment by the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in June 2022, when their service began in July 2022, the association claims that none of its members have received a “pesewa” as compensation.

It requested that the government issue a “communique that will be word-binding on when payment will be made within the shortest possible time.” The group will “declare our intention/new action to be taken on May 22, 2023,” it was stated, if the government hadn’t responded by Saturday, May 20, 2023.
