Former president John Dramani Mahama has been challenged by National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Solomon Nkansah to run for office as an independent candidate.
He stated that Mahama should run for office on his own merits if he thought the NDC needed him more and was less popular.
Many NDC supporters have said that John Mahama is the best candidate if the NDC can win elections again, especially in 2024, but Mr. Nkansah disagrees.
He is issuing a challenge to Mr. Mahama and those who believe the NDC cannot afford to lose him, nevertheless. If he would receive the same number of votes under the NDC in 2012, 2016, and possibly even 2020, he advised him to run as an independent.
He asserted that Mahama’s popularity in Ghanaian politics was not due to him personally but rather to the NDC brand. Kumasi’s Mr. Nkansah.
“If he is the most advertised candidate, why isn’t the NDC advertised?” “The NDC party isn’t a company? The NDC received 44% and something when we lost in 2000, even in the first round.
“Therefore, all those people who are making these statements out of self-interest must be aware of how well-liked and accepted the NDC is.”
“Whoever you present to Ghanaians with the appropriate marketing approach, with the persons standing, structure, and track record, the NDC will not suffer at elections,”
“Let’s see how we do in a popularity contest.When individuals hear statements like that—that Mahama is well-liked—they become reluctant to canvass for the NDC and instead daydream.
“People claim that the man is too well-liked; yet, because he has run in two elections and failed to win, don’t bring up popularity. He observed, “The one who is popular wins.
