Delegates have been warned not to choose a flagbearer who can only lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to victory in the general election and two terms in office by Yaw Boateng Gyan, a former national organizer for the party.

According to him, supporting a candidate whose term in government expires in four years is a gamble that won’t help the NDC.

According to Yaw Boateng Gyan, the party made amendments to reflect the same leadership of the minority in Parliament because the 2024 election is about the economy.

The NDC, it is argued, needs a smart economist like Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, whose record as a former Finance Minister is unblemished, to lead the party to power in order to fix the mess the Akufo-Addo led administration has made of the economy and restore optimism to Ghanaians.

He claimed that in order to assure continuity and the sustainability of the achievements obtained, the task at hand required a leader who could reign for eight years rather than one whose term would expire in four.

“The economy is a key issue in the 2024 elections.”

“It will take more time to address the depth of the economic harm done by Akufo-Addo and his brother Ofori-Atta. Therefore, if we choose someone whose term will end in four years and Ghanaians are unhappy with his performance, they won’t allow the NDC to present any new candidates to start his terms and will claim that we wasted their time. Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign visit was at Lower West Akyem Constituency when Yaw Boateng Gyan spoke to NDC delegates there.

He said further that “We nearly lost a million votes in 2016. We offered him the chance to run again, but we were defeated by 500,000 votes. We don’t have to gamble with the 2024 election.

Many Ghanaians want us to change our candidate so they may support the NDC, they say.

Therefore, we must understand that the voice of the people is God’s voice.

“EIU says Dr. Kwabena Duffuor must be the NDC’s leader if it hopes to win the 2024 elections.”

We require a candidate who will serve for eight years, not just four.
