The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared that the Western and Eastern Regions will not participate in today’s (Monday, December 2) extraordinary vote.

Following complaints of a disfigured vote paper, the EC was compelled to issue a recall and reprint of ballots for the aforementioned regions.

Consequently, these two regions’ special voting exercise has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5.

Election officials, security guards, and media professionals are among the qualified voters who will be able to cast their ballots early during the special voting, which would take place prior to the main election on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

It is anticipated that 131,478 out of the 18,741,159 registered voters will take part in the Special Voting.

The EC has attested that it is ready for the exercise and that all election materials have been sent to the centers.

On the day of the exercise, votes cast during the Special Voting will not be counted, she stated.

Rather, they will be included in the results of the main election and counted at the Constituency Collation Centers on December 7.

These outcomes will be individually noted by the Returning Officer at each Constituency Collation Center on the Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before being added to the final total from every polling place.

Every vote box at a police station in every constituency will be sealed and kept in a locked area to maintain security.

Presiding Officers are also prohibited by the EC from counting the votes cast on that particular day during the Special Voting.

Under the direction of Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the National Elections Security Taskforce has assured the public that it is prepared to offer the highest level of security to guarantee the safe and peaceful conduct of the elections.
