Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a former minister of communications, has endorsed Mr. John Dramani Mahama ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries, which are expected to take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah stated at a news conference in Accra on Monday that Mr. Mahama was in a strong position to win the flagbearership election on Saturday and overthrow the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential election.
According to research done by his staff at the local, state, and federal levels as well as on social media, the former president would receive at least 80% of the votes cast on Saturday.
“We have performed a number of assessments of prior election results, completed a S.W.O.T. analysis of our candidates looking ahead, and also looked at the people who chose to run in the present flagbeareship race.
According to “our research,” President John Mahama was the NDC’s “most credible and winnable candidate to contest the presidential election,” with more than 90% of the vote.
To choose a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the NDC is anticipated to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
The former president Mahama, who represented the NDC in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 presidential elections, is being challenged by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the former mayor of Kumasi.
A former trade and industry minister named Dr. Spio-Garbrah ran against Mr. Mahama for the position of NDC flagbearer in 2019, but the former President won.
He ran for president of the NDC in the 2008 elections but was defeated by the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah praised Dr. Duffuor and Mr. Bonsu for their courageous move to improve democracy in the NDC and urged the two candidates to support Mr. Mahama after the primaries to ensure the NDC’s win in the general election of 2024.
He claimed that the nation’s economy was in severe need of “urgent and speedy rebranding” in order to restore prosperity to the populace and major economic sectors. He asserted that he had faith in Mr. Mahama to revive the nation’s economy and brand.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah also expressed his willingness to use his experience and expertise from his private and public activities across the globe to support national reconstruction efforts.
