The minority in parliament wants the government of John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action to stop what they say is a worsening security situation in Bawku.
The minority claims that the security situation in Bawku has gotten worse, with inhabitants being displaced and lives being put in danger due to ongoing violence.
According to a statement from the minority, crimes such as home invasions, arson, and occasional shootings have become more frequent and intense, with many more persons reported missing than killed and a high death toll.
“The growing sophistication of weaponry used in these attacks is particularly alarming, raising questions about the sources of arms and the effectiveness of measures to curb their proliferation.” the Ranking Committee on Defense and Interior said in a statement signed by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
“Recent developments, including targeted bus attacks and the setting ablaze of the residence of Hon. Mahama Ayariga, reflect the increasing volatility of the situation and the level of frustration among sections of the youth.” it continued.
“The failure to de-escalate tensions leads to a cycle of reprisals, which, if unchecked, will further entrench insecurity in the area.”
