Maame Tiwaa, a legendary gospel singer who was well-known for her long tenure with Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo ensemble, has passed away.
She died in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, after weeks of illness.
With her passing, more than 40 years of devoted, dependable music ministry, a voice that many Ghanaian gospel fans grew up with, come to an end. Maame Tiwaa was seen by many in the business as more than just a supporting vocalist; she was a key component of the Asomafo sound.

Maame Tiwaa was born in Domeabra, Ahafo Region, and began her musical career at the age of ten. Her gift introduced her to Reverend Yaw Sarpong, who later founded the Asomafo Band and collaborated with her throughout her career.
The two developed a working relationship that became one of the most durable relationships in Ghana’s gospel scene.
