The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has ordered that flags at all public buildings be returned to full mast immediately after the state funeral and burial of all eight victims of the helicopter tragedy are complete.
Prior to the fatal helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, the Chief of Staff had ordered that flags be flown at half-mast.
On Friday, August 15, the victims’ funeral was held.
On Monday, August 18, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, released the following statement:
“Further to the conclusion of the state funeral and the burial of all eight victims, the Chief of Staff directs that flags at all public buildings be restored to full mast with immediate effect. We make this decision mindful of our collective grief and the honour we have paid to those we have lost.”
President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the government also said in the statement that they were deeply grateful to the Ghanaians, chiefs, clergy, Muslim clerics, civil society, the diplomatic community, political leaders, security chiefs, service members, and everyone else who provided consolation, support, and condolences following the August 6 helicopter crash that killed eight people.
