The International Public Relations Association (IPRA) has named Ms. Esther Ambah Numaba Cobbah, President of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, its first-ever African president.

Ms. Cobbah’s election was a historic event, according to a statement given to the Ghana News Agency IPR-Ghana. She became the first African to hold the position of head of the 70-year-old international public relations organization with its headquarters located in London, UK.

Her appointment, according to the announcement, validated Africa’s increasing prominence in the global public relations arena as well as her exceptional leadership in communication.

IPR-Ghana’s International Relations Committee Chair, Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, expressed the organization’s pride in this accomplishment.

“Esther Cobbah’s leadership is a beacon for Africa and for professional communicators across the world. Her rise to this global position is both historic and inspirational,” he added.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Communications Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa), Ms. Cobbah has been the architect and head of the award-winning organization for more than thirty years.

IPR, Ghana PR Personality of the Year (2013), CIMG Marketing Woman of the Year (2012), Outstanding Woman of the Year, and GOWA Awards (2022) are just a few of the national and international honors she has received for her visionary leadership.

In 2015, PRNews USA named her one of the 50 leading women in public relations. In 2016, Stratcomm Africa received the IPRA United Nations Award for PR and Sustainable Development.

For the past four years, Ms. Cobbah has been the only African member of IPRA’s Governing Board. She has also served as a distinguished judge on the organization’s Golden World Awards (GWA), the world’s most prestigious prizes for achievement in public relations.

She attended Wesley Girls’ High School, the University of Ghana, and Cornell University in the United States. Her success with Stratcomm Africa, a communication agency she founded more than 31 years ago, is one example of her lifetime dedication to quality and moral communication.

It is anticipated that Ms. Cobbah’s presidency will bring in a new age of global collaboration, inclusivity, and creativity in public relations.
