The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has mutually agreed to certain conditions of service, which the National Labour Commission (NLC) has instructed the government to put into effect right away.
The government is alleged to have refused to uphold the Arbitral Award Orders granted by the NLC and the negotiated terms of service since May 2. CETAG called the strike on August 1, 2023.
Ofosu Asamoah, the NLC’s executive secretary, emphasized the need of following their instructions in a news release.
“The commission listened attentively to both parties and noted with concern that the government, the defendant in this case, has not fully complied with our issued directives. They are unequivocally instructed to implement, in full, the commission’s directives, which includes the prompt disbursement of the owed funds,” the NLC Executive Secretary stated.
John Newton Kumi, the national vice-president of CETAG, stressed the seriousness of the situation by saying that the strike wouldn’t end until the government had provided concrete evidence of their worries.
The association has been steadfast in their demand for fair treatment and the fulfillment of the stipulated requirements on behalf of members from all 46 training institutes.
