The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been accused of mismanaging the Police Service by COP George Alex Mensah, a senior police officer at the center of the IGP leaked video story.

In his testimony before the legislative committee looking into the tape leak, COP Mensah made these assertions.

Senior police officers can be heard planning to oust the IGP with Bugri Naabu, the former NPP chairman for the Northern area, in the recording that was leaked.

The IGP’s leadership, according to COP Mensah, has caused many police personnel’ morale to decrease. This is one of his main concerns.

“Dampare is not doing a good job of administering the Police Service, and most police officers are not satisfied. You can contact the police underneath, and they will tell you, according to COP Mensah.

COP Mensah recognized his political allegiance during his presence and stated that he supports the NPP due to his family’s UP origins.

His remarks coincide with those in the recording that was released, in which he is heard discussing the need to fire the IGP in order to guarantee the NPP’s win in the elections of 2024.

Along with casting doubt on the tape’s veracity, COP Mensah asserted that it had been altered from his original conversation with Bugri Naabu and as a result was not an accurate representation.

COP Mensah said during a back-and-forth with Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea that “This tape that was played today, to me, was an edited tape, I have not heard any unedited tape for me to talk about as I sit here.”

“There are so many things on the tape that I don’t remember, and there are so many things that we discussed that are not on the tape,” COP Mensah continued.

I saw Bugri Naabu four times, and during those meetings, we talked about a variety of topics, some of which were personal and which I am not yet ready to mention in public. Since I don’t remove IGPs, I don’t recall discussing any removal plans with Bugri Naabu during our meeting.

These assertions clearly conflict with Bugri Naabu’s testimony, which confirmed the tape’s veracity and confirmed that it was recorded in his own office in Osu.
