According to former Electoral Commission chair Kwadwo Afari Gyan, results tabulation centers are the most susceptible to manipulation out of all the electoral process nodes.
To reduce the likelihood of results manipulation, he has so advised the election management body against putting up an excessive number of them in future general elections.
The University of Ghana’s political science department celebrated its 60th anniversary with a forum, and Dr. Afari Gyan said: “Voter tabulation sounds like a simple and straightforward activity, but examples from recent elections will indicate that collation centers are the most vulnerable points in manipulating election results.”
Therefore, he said, “it is not desirable to set up many collation points in the results management process.”
“Each collation center represents a point where results can be willfully or accidentally corrupted,” he stated.
Additionally, he pointed out, tracking changes and results becomes more challenging the more collation centers there are.
