The Ghana Police Service has issued a harsh warning to criminals across the country, encouraging them to lay down their arms as the service steps up efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.

Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector General of Police (IGP), stated that the Police Service is still dedicated to safeguarding civilians and would keep pursuing and apprehending those involved in illegal activity.

He said this on Tuesday, May 19, after receiving a plaque and citation from the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana in appreciation of his work combating criminality, especially that which targets mobile money operators and agents.

Speaking to the crowd, the IGP emphasised that criminals will have a harder time avoiding capture due to improvements in contemporary enforcement methods.

“We want to sound a strong warning to the criminals wherever they are, that we will not give up in our endeavor to make sure that we protect Ghanaians in general. And so, for that matter, they should lay down their arms, they should stop committing crime, because whatever they do and wherever they hide in this our modern day of policing, they can run, but they cannot hide,” he warned.

Mr. Yohuno reiterated the Police Service’s commitment to stopping criminal activities and upholding national law and order.

Edward Ofori-Agyemang, president of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana, praised the IGP for his initiative and leadership in combating crime.

In order to enhance security in the industry, he also asked the Police Service to continue its operations against criminals, particularly those who target mobile money vendors and agents.
