Joe Ghartey, a former minister of railway development, said the meeting with National Investigation Bureau (NIB) representatives looking into the Sky Train Project on Monday laid to rest any doubts that the ministry did not follow the proper procedures.

According to the Auditor-General’s report from 2021, Mr. Ghartey told reporters following his meeting with NIB officials that the Railways Development Ministry did not make any payments during his tenure because the Sky Train Project was designed as a Build, Operate Transfer (BOT) transaction.

According to the former Minister of Railways Development, his ministry took all necessary measures to guarantee that it was not held responsible for the project’s feasibility studies, either financially or in terms of risk.

When asked about the NIB’s offer, Mr. Ghartey said that he had included a number of provisions in the Project Agreements that released his ministry from all financial responsibilities.

Furthermore, Mr. Ghartey said that since the Sky Train transaction was legal, he had no qualms about working with the NIB officials on Monday.

Previously, Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, the former chairman of the GIIF Board, was also asked to give an update on the deal.
