COP Another police officer accused in a taped attempt to have Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed from his position, George Alex Mensah, has strongly disputed the tape’s veracity.

The former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, was the subject of the conversation, according to COP Mensah, who alleges that the recording has been altered and does not correctly capture what was said at the time.

COP Mensah stated his inability to confirm a number of items on the audio during his presence before the committee charged for investigating the tape that was leaked.

He emphasized that the recording in circulation has been strongly edited and that there is no plan to fire the IGP. Asserting that “this tape that was played today, to me, was an edited tape,” COP Mensah said in a direct confrontation with Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea, “I have not heard any unedited tape for me to talk about as I sit here.”

“There are so many things on the tape that I don’t remember, and there are so many things that we discussed that are not on the tape,” COP Mensah continued. Bugri Naabu and I have spoken about a variety of topics throughout our four meetings, some of which are private and I am hesitant to mention publicly.

“I had a meeting with Bugri Naabu, but I don’t remember having any plans to remove the IGP because I don’t remove the IGP.”

His assertions are in stark contrast to Bugri Naabu’s testimony, which established the tape’s authenticity and the recording’s location in Osu.

Bugri Naabu further acknowledged that COP Mensah requested him to speak with Dampare’s possible impeachment because he was unlikely to assist the NPP in winning the 2024 elections.

Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi had previously denied any association with Bugri Naabu.

The idea that they had worked together on a pre-arranged plot with two other senior police officers to discuss the prospective removal of the IGP with President Nana Akufo-Addo was scorned by Superintendent Gyebi, who fiercely denied any knowledge of Bugri Naabu.

Supt. Gyebi strongly denied any allegations that he was a part of the purported plot to assassinate the IGP in response to queries from the committee members, calling them “palpable lies.”

Although he had a long-standing acquaintance with the other two implicated police officers, the director of the Cyber Crime Unit and Child Protection at CID Headquarters insisted that he was not a part of the scheme to remove the IGP.

Even though his voice is not audible on the tape that was leaked, he expressed surprise that Bugri Naabu had accused him during his testimony.
