Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, underlined the government’s commitment to improve social protection services during a courtesy call from Mr. Robert S. Chase.
The World Bank’s Social Policy Practice Manager for West and Central Africa, Mr Chase, is in Ghana to assist the nation’s social protection strategy and strengthen cooperation.
The meeting’s main goal was to strengthen government-World Bank cooperation in carrying out important interventions under Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2, such as the LEAP cash transfer and technical assistance to the Ghana School Feeding Program, among other social protection programs.
In order to reach more vulnerable populations, the government is increasing the number of beneficiary households from 350,000 to 400,000, the Minister noted, highlighting the effects of programs like Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty.

She affirmed that steps are being taken to guarantee a seamless transition for beneficiaries leaving social intervention programs and underlined the need for more robust collaborations, including private sector involvement.
In order to improve collaboration throughout the industry, the Minister also highlighted significant legislative advancements like the Social Protection Act and the Affirmative Action Act.
Mr. Chase, for his part, reiterated the World Bank’s dedication to aiding Ghana’s endeavours, especially in allocating funds to enhance the quality of life for marginalised communities.
