The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has detained three people suspected of being directly involved in a 1,158-kilogram shipment of cocaine from Ghana to the Port of Antwerp in Belgium.

The arrests occurred on December 4, 2025, following weeks of coordinated intelligence operations between Ghanaian security agencies and their Belgian counterparts, who seized the suspected narcotics upon arrival in Europe.

Officials believe the seizure is one of the largest international drug-related instances traced back to Ghana this year.

NACOC alleges that the three suspects played major roles in the shipment’s preparation, paperwork, and export, which was disguised as genuine material.

The shipment may be linked to a larger multinational drug trafficking network that operates via several ports in West Africa, according to preliminary inquiry findings.

According to security sources, Belgian officials noticed irregularities in the container and notified NACOC. This prompted a quick trace-back operation that resulted in the arrests.

According to NACOC, a thorough investigation is under progress to find further collaborators and determine the extent of the network responsible for the attempted export.

In order to combat drug trafficking, the commission has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering port surveillance and expanding collaboration with foreign partners.

As Ghana steps up its efforts to stop the trafficking of illicit substances, it also advised shipping agents, freight operators, and members of the public to be watchful and report any suspicious activity.
