An intelligence-driven operation by the Ghana Police Service prevented a planned robbery and led to the arrest of three individuals who intended to steal a gold shipment worth more than one million three hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 1.3 million).

The accused, Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey, were taken into custody on the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe route on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service’s Special Support Unit (SSU) at the National Headquarters began the operation on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, after receiving reports that a gold dealer’s driver and a man posing as his bodyguard had planned to rob the dealer the next day while he was making a scheduled gold delivery.

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Kenneth Khartey was caught at Akuapem-Mamfe while riding a motorcycle and following a Land Cruiser that was carrying the gold shipment, according to preliminary findings.

In an unregistered blue Hyundai car, suspects Adams Zibo and Massawud Yussif were taken into custody in East Legon later that day. The two (2) suspects were found to have obtained firearms, motorcycles, and a getaway car for the heist and were in charge of selling the gold following the heist.

The 1.2-kilogram gold, worth GHC 1,350,343.53, was secured together with the safe rescue of the gold dealer.

All three suspects are being held, helping with the investigation, and will appear in court.
