Three 18-year-olds were each given a 10-year prison sentence for their involvement in a violent heist that left multiple Boubai locals in the Asokore Mampong Municipality traumatized and maimed.

Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari entered guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery, and on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi sentenced them.

In addition, Issah received a three-year term for inflicting harm; however, the sentences will be served concurrently.

Between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. on July 1, 2025, the incident took place. With machetes in hand, the three suspects, along with three other accomplices who are still at large, attacked residents of Boubai while riding two unlicensed motorcycles.

During the early-morning assault, the thieves stole cash, luggage, and cell phones from their victims.

After prompt action by local community volunteers, the culprits were apprehended later that same day in their hideout in Aboabo.

Along with three suitcases thought to be stolen and 10 cell phones that had been discovered, the volunteers turned the suspects over to the police.

When the matter was presented before the Ataasemanso Circuit Court, all three accused pled guilty to the accusations.

The prisoners were processed and moved to Kumasi’s Central Prisons to start serving their sentences after being sentenced.

The head of the Ashanti Region’s Public Affairs Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, praised the public for their prompt cooperation and responsiveness during the operation, especially the community volunteers.

“We continue to encourage the public to support policing efforts and promptly report suspicious activities,” Mr. Ahianyo stated.

The police have promised that they are still working to apprehend the other conspirators.
