To honor the 2023 Green Ghana Day, the Parliament of Ghana will undertake a brief exercise at 10:00 am today, Friday, June 9, 2023, in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

About 300 tree seedlings will be planted at Parliament House, the official residence of the Speaker, Deputy Speakers, Leader’s village, Clerk-to-Parliament, among other officials, under the direction of Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

A statement from David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Media Relations, said that due to the significance of this national exercise, the Speaker will adjourn today’s session to allow Members of Parliament to join their constituents in planting trees in the towns, communities, and villages within their respective constituencies.

The Speaker, Members of Parliament, and the entire Parliamentary Service employees will take part in the nationwide exercise in full.

The goal of this year’s Green Ghana Day exercise is to plant at least 10 million tree seedlings across the nation under the theme “Our Forests, Our Health.”

The national exercise is a component of a vigorous restoration and afforestation program to restore the forest landscape that has been damaged and to support international efforts to combat climate change.

According to the Parliament, the nation’s joint duty is to preserve and defend the forest.

In light of this, Parliament is urging government organizations, institutions, religious groups, and the general people to show their patriotism by actively taking part in the tree-planting ceremony.
