Ghana’s fishing industry is expected to undergo major changes, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The President promised to put into effect a number of steps to increase the sector’s sustainability after acknowledging the vital role it plays in the economy of the nation and the livelihoods of several Ghanaians.
At the National Aquaculture Training Center and Commercial Farm’s opening ceremony at Amrahia, Accra, the President made this pledge.
He asserts that the development of the farm is just one of several initiatives the administration is implementing to boost the nation’s fish production.
According to him, the facility produces 4 metric tonnes of prawns, 25 metric tonnes of catfish, and 25 metric tonnes of tilapia per year.
Recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), used by the center, is one such contemporary technology that possesses these qualities. This system, which was just put into service, not only has minimal maintenance requirements and moderate to low energy usage. Additionally, it ensures the creation of goods suitable for export. Thus, it guarantees the annual production of 4 metric tonnes of prawns, 25 metric tonnes of catfish, and 25 metric tonnes of tilapia.
He anticipated that the center will increase national fish production overall.
“By educating young people at the center, this will eventually boost fish production, decrease fish imports, and improve local capacity and technological know-how. I anticipate that the center will be well run to fulfill its mission of educating contemporary fish producers and producing fish in large quantities to support the facility and increase national fish output overall.
The President said, “I encourage the student trainees to continue and assist change the development of this potentially lucrative center through their representatives.
He commended the consultants and contractors for finishing the job on time.
