Two people are arrested by police with 519 packages of suspected Indian hemp.

Two suspects were taken into custody by the Central East Regional Police Command in Gomoa Nyanyano, Gomoa East District, Central Region, for possessing what was believed to be Indian hemp.

The defendants, Eric Nkyeke (30) and Francis Klu (28), were arrested on Monday, August 11, 2025, at approximately 7:40 a.m., as they were reportedly removing 519 compressed packets of the material from a Toyota Hilux pickup vehicle registered as GS-6849-21.

The Nyanyano District Patrol Team reportedly made the seizure as part of a routine operation.

In the course of ongoing investigations, the car has been seized and the suspected drugs have been secured.

The command praised the arresting officers’ professionalism in a news release issued by Head of Public Affairs DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo.

“The Regional Police Command appreciates the arresting officers and reaffirms its commitment to fighting drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety of our communities,” the statement read.

Additionally, the Command warned those engaged in such unlawful actions.

“We warn all individuals involved in such crimes to desist or face the full rigours of the law if arrested,” the statement said.

The Command also called on the public to help law enforcement combat illegal narcotics.

“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drugs or crime to the police,” the statement added.
