Together with the Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia opened the Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Technology Centre in Akim Oda, Eastern Region.
Dr. Bawumia underlined the value of digitization and the necessity of preparing Ghanaian youth for international competition during the ceremony. The mother of Diawuo is remembered in the name of the technology cluster. By providing young people with IT skills, it aims to promote the Ghanaian government’s initiative to digitize all economic sectors.
Students from all over the world will have access to virtual learning opportunities and relationships thanks to the facility’s Huawei Idea Hub. The initiative was supported by the Ghana Library Authority, Huawei Ghana, MTN Ghana, and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC). Prince Ofosu Sefah, the executive director of GIFEC, is confident that the technology hub will bridge the digital divide between Ghana’s rural and urban populations and have a good impact on the fields of education, health, business, agriculture, and entertainment.
Since 2017, GIFEC has built ICT labs for approximately 947 elementary and senior high schools to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT. It has also taught about 17,000 people in a variety of ICT programs and facilitated the Girls in ICT Program, which has trained close to 8,000 girls and 800 instructors.
Brian Wulang, director of enterprise business at Huawei, emphasized the company’s enthusiasm for joining a campaign to encourage digital literacy and give young people the tools they need to realize their potential.
