Yagbonwura BII Kunto Jewu Soale, the ruler of the Gonja kingdom, has asked Ghana’s parliament leadership and Speaker to use caution when discussing LGBTQIA+ matters.

Never introduce any unsettling phenomena into the social structure of the nation because the forefathers of the land will not pardon them if such sexuality is legalized by the house.

The king claims that LGBTQIA+ people are abhorrent and foreign to Ghanaian cultural customs and values.

He argued that if we remain silent and enable lawmakers to approve LGBTQ rights, our forefathers would never forgive us.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Bagbin, visited the Yagbonwura while he was speaking at his home in Damongo, in the Savanna Region, as part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the parliament.

The Yagbonwura said, “I am confident that the LGBTQ+ bill will be unanimously rejected by Ghana’s eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic.”

Additionally, he urged the Speaker to take a closer look at the problems with communal hunting, which are having a variety of negative effects on the Savanna Region.

In response, Mr. Bagbin firmly voiced his position on the LGBTQIA+ law.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: even if I can’t vote, I’d rather die than watch the LGBTQ+ bill become law.

The LGBTQ+ law “will never be sanctioned to be in Ghana,” he declared. “I administer the affairs of the House and I can assure you and the good people of Ghana of that.”

The House of Legislature is presently considering the measure.
