The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under fire from the minority whip in parliament for its assertion that it has the men to run the nation’s economy.

He claims that the men are not with the NPP.

On November 10, the Minority submitted a motion to censure Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, and the Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak was seconding the motion.

The Majority always says that we have the men; he said, “There is this. What a strong team, what a solid team, you could hear the vice president yell.

“Today when the real challenges came we have now come to realize apparently it was not the men they have, they were just area boys.”

“They are area boys because they are not able to confront the real challenges that confront our country,” he added.

The Whip, who is also a representative for the Asawase Constituency, claimed that it is the duty of all members to take action against the Finance Minister, who is responsible for the economic sufferings that ordinary Ghanaians are experiencing and fighting to feed themselves.

Referring to them as the “Rambo 80,” he cautioned the 80 NPP MPs who have also called for the Finance Minister’s dismissal to exercise caution since they may have valid grounds for mutiny.

You understand that this is a Finance Minister who doesn’t pay attention, he remarked. You are aware of the numerous attempts you have made to persuade him to act morally, to no avail. These are the causes of your rebellion.

“You know the kind of President and his family you have, so I can tell you that if you go back, you’ll regret it. They will undoubtedly pursue you. Helping us eliminate him today is better for you.

It will help you gain credibility and convince people to believe you. You must respond to all of the allegations that you were the target of a bribery attempt today. You must demonstrate to everyone that you were never bought off.

In the meantime, the 80 MPs have acknowledged that they have returned to their original stance when calling for the dismissal of the Finance Minister.

Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, who spoke to the media during a press conference on Thursday, stated that the MPs do not want Ofori-Atta to give the 2023 Budget statement to Parliament or be in charge of the appropriation.

It is the Finance Ministry, he claimed, “when people are under pressure and lack comprehension for the logic of competence and hard work and when they lose confidence, it impacts the markets and the people’s pockets.”

But we don’t have anything against the Minister personally.

“Our position is clear that if confidence in him has gone down he must go,” he added.
