Five notable Ghanaians have received diplomatic passports from Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in appreciation of their global influence and contributions to enhancing the nation’s reputation outside.
The statement was made on Wednesday, September 17, during the opening of the 2025 Diaspora Summit in Accra, which was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President—Diaspora Affairs.
The recipients are travel vlogger Wode Maya (Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon), Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.
Mr. Ablakwa explained that NLCD 155 gave the Foreign Minister the authority to bestow the honor.
The beneficiaries, he said, have continuously improved Ghana’s standing abroad and would now be granted diplomatic passports to carry on their work.
His Facebook post promoting the effort read, “Congratulations; keep bringing Ghana renown.”
Every one of the five honorees has made a significant contribution to their respective disciplines. While Rocky Dawuni has established himself as a cultural ambassador for peace and the environment through his music and activism, Wode Maya has become a well-known YouTuber who highlights African locations and entrepreneurship.
Ibrahim Mahama has become well-known throughout the world for his enormous visual art projects, while Anita Erskine has established herself as a prominent broadcaster and supporter of women’s liberation.
The GUBA Awards and GUBA Enterprise were founded by Dentaa Amoateng, who has played a significant role in strengthening ties between Ghana and its diaspora.
