A terrible viral video showing a group of males coercing a youngster to inhale cigarettes has been denounced by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
The Ministry called the behavior abusive, illegal, and a flagrant breach of the child’s rights and dignity in a statement released on November 21.
The Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which ensures that every kid is protected from bodily, psychological, and moral harm, is violated when a child is exposed to dangerous chemicals, according to the Ministry.
The Early Childhood Care and Development Policy, which aims to provide children with secure and nurturing surroundings, is likewise undermined by such activities.
Since then, the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been tasked by the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection with looking into the video and prosecuting the offenders.
The Ministry also called on the public, parents, and guardians to fulfill their duty to shield kids from abuse of any kind.
The Ministry urged traditional authorities, religious organizations, civil society organizations, and the general public to step up efforts to protect vulnerable groups, especially women and children, as the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence came to an end.
