The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has kicked off its 2026 engagement calendar with a high-level stakeholder meeting to set goals for the year.
The meeting, the first of its type in 2026, brought together leaders from the hospitality industry, travel operators, event promoters, cultural and heritage organisations, linked service providers, and the Authority’s senior management.
Mrs Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, emphasised the Authority’s commitment to greater, systematic, and sustained stakeholder engagement, emphasising the importance of collaboration in building on recent sector accomplishments.
“This year, our engagement with industry stakeholders will be more deliberate, more consistent, and more results-driven,” she said.
Mrs Houadjeto stated that tourism development could not be undertaken in a vacuum and that greater cooperation would help to improve standards, coordinate priorities, and boost the industry’s competitiveness internationally.
“Tourism cannot grow in silos. Our focus is to work closely with stakeholders, listen more, align better, and build a sector that is professional, competitive, and globally respected,” she said.
In order to improve service delivery, raise operational standards, and improve the visitor experience across the country, she stated that the Authority would prioritise capacity building and training in 2026.

“Training is no longer optional. To protect Ghana’s tourism brand and remain competitive, we must continuously upgrade skills, improve service delivery, and professionalise every layer of the sector. “The GTA will prioritise targeted training programmes to support industry players and raise standards across board,” she said.
Mrs. Houadjeto highlighted that the focus in 2026 will be on consolidation to ensure long-term sustainability while reflecting on recent accomplishments, citing the success of the “December in GH” program as proof of successful public-private cooperation.
Strengthening “December in GH” as a structured tourism economy, enhancing heritage and cultural tourism, growing domestic tourism initiatives, upholding standards and compliance, and fostering innovation through strategic partnerships were among the priorities she listed for the year.
Mrs. Houadjeto reaffirmed the GTA’s commitment to maintaining open and continuous communication with stakeholders throughout the year in order to develop a resilient, inclusive, and high-performing tourism industry.
Participants applauded the idea and promised to collaborate closely with the Authority to expand the industry, create job opportunities, and strengthen Ghana’s standing as a top tourist destination.
