Rans Logistics, a company accused in the Auditor-General’s special report for suspected repeated transgressions, has repaid GH¢19.1 million to the state within one week after the report’s release.

Thousands of tonnes of rice and corn vanished, and the corporation was accused of overpaying for grain transportation.

Deputy Finance Minister Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko praised the reimbursement as evidence of the audit’s success in safeguarding public funds during his appearance before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament on Monday.

“Mr. Chairman, on March 10, I presented the findings of the audit to Parliament. Exactly a week later, on March 17, one of the companies identified, Rans Logistics, has gone ahead to refund GH¢19.1 million to the state,” he stated.

Rans Logistics was paid for more than 7,000 metric tonnes of rice that were purportedly missing, according to the audit.

Mr. Ampem Nyarko highlighted that the corporation was supposed to pay back the cost of the grains that went missing.

“We are expecting the value of these 7000 metric tons of rice to be reimbursed as well. ” The Attorney General is working with his team to recommend the right course of action for all identified infractions,” he informed the Committee

The Deputy Minister emphasised that protecting public finances was the audit’s main goal, saying that “this example showed the importance of the audit.” It was designed to safeguard public resources, and it is starting to accomplish that goal,” he stated.
