President John Dramani Mahama received a courtesy call yesterday from the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, confirming the government’s commitment to a stronger, more structured relationship with traditional authority to further national development.
The President underlined that chiefs must be completely incorporated into government, project monitoring, and community development initiatives since they are still essential to nation-building based on legitimacy, culture, and trust.
In order to improve transparency, accountability, and delivery, President Mahama announced plans under the Reset Agenda to formalise cooperation between traditional leaders and District Assemblies, including frequent coordination meetings and cooperative monitoring of important infrastructure projects.
In order to portray the Northern Region as a primary force behind Ghana’s transformation and food security agenda, he also emphasised significant initiatives throughout the region, such as investments in agriculture, roads, education, healthcare, water systems, and rural electrification.

President Mahama also asked for more coordination between chiefs, youth organisations, and security agencies to tackle drug usage, while prioritising the construction of vital health infrastructure such as the psychiatric hospital in Mion and a new cardio facility in Tamale.
He gave the Northern Regional House of Chiefs his word that the government will assist the establishment of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs Secretariat and enhance the institutional capabilities of traditional authority.
The Northern Regional House of Chiefs promised to work closely with the administration and actively support development initiatives from start to finish.
