A combined team of intelligence officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, and the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands was sent by the Inspector-General of Police to conduct a manhunt for the perpetrators following the fatal incident.

The gang boss, Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” and suspect Bawa Gideon were apprehended on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim in Kumasi.

The arrest came after a dramatic altercation in which the accused opened fire on the police while trying to escape.

After being hurt during the gunfight, one of the suspects was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is being treated under police supervision. The other is still being held and helping with enquiries.

Eleven BB rounds, a “blantine” pepper spray, a revolver with two rounds of.32 ammo, desert boots, various cell phones, and a black pullover were all found by police during the operation.

Suspect Mohammed Ahmed acknowledged his involvement in other robberies during questioning, including the attacks on the Berekum Chelsea FC bus, the Fufuso mobile seller, and the Nkawie robbery.

He also indicated accomplices who are currently at large, Dauda, Huefe, and A.T.

The three accomplices are wanted by the police, who are requesting information from the public that will result in their apprehension.

Berekum Chelsea FC player Dominic Frimpong was killed in the heist on the team’s bus.

The Ghanaian football community was rocked by the occurrence, and both the club and the Ghana Football Association expressed their profound sadness over the terrible loss.

The troops and officers participating in the operation have received praise from the Police Command for their professionalism and unwavering efforts in capturing the offenders.

The public and community members’ collaboration and support, which greatly aided in the breakthrough, were also acknowledged by the Command.
