The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted its inaugural Ambassadors’ Chat Series on April 28, 2026.

It included 100-year-old Ambassador Richard Maximillian Akwei, one of Ghana’s ten trailblazing Foreign Service Officers who paved the road for the country’s diplomacy at a time when its voice was only beginning to be heard on the international scene.

The Ambassadors’ Chat Series aims to give Ministry officers a casual but important forum to engage with seasoned retired ambassadors in discussions that will further their professional growth by exchanging real-world diplomatic experiences.

In the conversation with Ambassador Richard Maximillian Akwei, he discussed Ghana’s stances in international relations since gaining independence, including its contribution to the African continent’s liberation movement, the founding of the former Organization of African Unity (now the African Union), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), among other things.

He said that working closely with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of the Republic of Ghana, was encouraging. Along with discussing the knowledge he had acquired throughout his years of active employment, he also considered the world’s current events, their effects on nations, and the demands placed on international agencies.

The Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry’s management were commended by Ambassador Akwei for the initiative.

He also praised the Minister for his outstanding leadership and unwavering efforts to strengthen Ghana’s foreign policy.

The Chat Series’ first episode was interesting and thought-provoking.
