Ghana’s government has warned citizens to be extra attentive in order to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking schemes.
This warning follows the rescue and return to Ghana on Sunday, May 10, 2026, of twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals, mostly young people, who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, they were saved following a successful operation by security personnel and representatives of the Ghanaian Embassy in Abidjan.
The statement went on to say that the victims of human trafficking who were rescued are now safely in Ghana and are helping with additional investigations.
The Ghanaian government expressed gratitude to the Ivorian authorities for their efficient cooperation and intelligence sharing.
“Ghanaians are hereby advised to be extra vigilant and avoid becoming victims to such trafficking schemes,” the statement said.
