President John Dramani Mahama will chair a special Cabinet meeting on Thursday, May 14, to address suggestions given by the constitutional review committee.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a government spokesperson, revealed the development, stating that the Attorney General and the President’s legal staff have previously thoroughly reviewed a draft position document.
He noted that in order to direct the government’s response to the recommendations made during the constitutional review process, the President had already ordered that the report be thoroughly examined.
He claims that the job is now finished and that the Cabinet will convene to decide on the suggestions.
He stated on Joy News, “So Thursday, 14th May, there will be a special cabinet session chaired by the president himself to consider the draft position paper.”
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that the government’s official reaction to the numerous suggestions under examination will be determined by the meeting’s outcome.
In order for the public to comprehend the government’s stance, he continued, the authorised document will eventually be made public.
He pointed out that the constitutional review committee needs a position document from the government rather than a white paper, in contrast to a commission of inquiry.
He went on to say that while other issues might potentially be discussed, the constitutional review report is the primary topic of the Cabinet’s meeting.
He states that the administration will proceed to the next phase of execution, which includes the formation of an implementation committee, when Cabinet accepts the document.
Based on viability and other factors, he continued, each plan would be evaluated separately; some are anticipated to be approved, some to be changed, and still others to be rejected.
He said that after Cabinet’s discussions are over, the government will continue to interact with the public.
