Seven individuals have been detained by the Ghana Police Service through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP in relation to a robbery conspiracy connected to a string of crimes in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi where victims were robbed of cash, gold, and mercury.
After Ivorian investor Mousa Bamba complained that he had been tricked into going to Dzorwulu under the guise of buying six kilograms of gold for US$450,000.00, investigations were launched.
Claiming to be military troops and CID agents, the suspects allegedly robbed him at gunpoint before running away.
Mohammed Umaro, also known as Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu, also known as Dangote, were arrested as a result of investigations, according to a police post on X.com on Tuesday, May 26.
Subsequent investigations revealed the involvement of three police officers, Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga, as well as two military members, Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, also known as Bullet.
Since then, police officers have been placed under interdict to facilitate investigations.
The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP conducted intelligence-driven operations on May 23 and 24, 2026, which led to the arrest of other individuals, including Clement Gyasi, Farouk Zakari, Justin Oduro, alias Don King, alias Mafia, and others.
While efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional syndicate collaborators, all accused are presently being held by the police to aid in investigations.
