Contractors on the new Eastern Regional Hospital project have been instructed by President John Dramani Mahama to return to the site and start building again.
This was revealed yesterday, Thursday, June 11, when Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey gave the keynote speech at the formal opening of the Eastern Regional Hospital’s Centenary Celebration in Koforidua.
According to her, the President’s order demonstrates the government’s dedication to bolstering healthcare facilities and expanding Eastern Region citizens’ access to high-quality medical care.
“His Excellency has given directives for the tractor to return to the site and resume work on our hospital. The centenary celebration, therefore, provides an opportunity not only to celebrate past accomplishments but also to reaffirm our resolve to build a stronger and more robust healthcare system for our nation,” she said.
Dr. Aiden Suntaa Saanwie, the Medical Superintendent of the Eastern Regional Hospital, responded to the development by stating that management is also concentrating on expanding human resource capacity to meet demand, particularly if the institution is upgraded into a teaching hospital once completed.
“That is going to be my priority going forward, to make sure that people who are interested in various areas are pushed to go and specialize in these areas, so that by the time the facility is ready, we will have the man power to man it,” he said.
