Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), reorganised his personal office and appointed former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Chief of Staff.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a seven-time member of Parliament for Suame in Kumasi, is a former Majority Leader and one of the longest-serving members of Parliament under Ghana’s Fourth Republic constitution, serving from January 7, 1997 until January 6, 2025.

He is a well-liked member of the NPP.

In the Bawumia 2028 campaign architecture, his new position effectively places him as the second most important player.

Based on the NPP’s 2024 electoral loss, the reorganisation shows how Bawumia is setting up his 2028 campaign apparatus.

The Bawumia campaign will greatly benefit from Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s legislative expertise, strong grassroots network, and reputation for discipline and institutional memory as it works to rebuild the NPP.

He represented the Suame people as an MP for seven terms, holding the positions of Minority Leader and Majority Leader when the roles were reversed.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu held the positions of Deputy Chairman of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA INTERNATIONAL) and Vice Chairman of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC).

The former vice president also appointed Opare Ansah as director of identifiable activities. Mr. Peter Mac Manu, Director of Political Strategy; Fred Oware, Political Advisor; Nana Akomeah, Director of Communication and Branding; Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Director of Policy Coordination with assistance from Evon Hughes; Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Director of Organization and Youth Inclusion; and Dr. Ekua Amoako, Spokesperson.
