The Kumasi Expressway project is moving forward briskly, with more than 70 km of the route already cleared, according to President John Dramani Mahama.

He noted that the 48th Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces is in charge of clearing the right-of-way and is performing what he called a “fantastic job” on the major infrastructure project.

When the Bono House of Chiefs paid President Mahama a courtesy call in Accra on Wednesday, June 17, he made the statements.

He clarified that prior to his most recent trip, roughly 51 kilometres had been cleared; however, as work on the expressway corridor continues, the number has already risen to over 70 km.

He stated that compensation payments to impacted farmers and property owners have already started, and that the project would be turned over to the main contractor once the clearance phase is over.

The President stated that by cutting the distance between Accra and Kumasi from roughly 270 kilometres to 198 kilometres, the Kumasi Motorway will greatly shorten travel times.

He noted that the route will significantly speed up travel to locations like Sunyani and Dormaa Ahenkro, with the Kumasi portion anticipated to take no more than two hours.

His remarks are consistent with previous updates from Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, who revealed that the military was crucial to the project’s initial clearance of roughly 51 miles.

The project, which aims to improve connection and enhance economic activity between Ghana’s two main cities, was regarded by Dr. Forson as one of the country’s most vital infrastructural developments.

The government’s larger infrastructure plan to address transport issues and promote national growth includes the Accra-Kumasi Motorway.
