The 47.1 km Kumasi Outer Ring Road is currently under construction. The project is expected to be finished by December 2027, having started in January 2026.

A dual asphaltic roadway will be built as part of the project. It terminates at Akom on the Offinso Road (N10) after beginning at Atia on the Accra Road (N6).

When finished, the Ring Road will connect the country’s northern and southern regions and provide an essential alternate travel route.

The Ring Road, which runs through five municipal and district assemblies—Juaben Municipal, Sekyere South Municipal, Sekyere East District, Afigya Kwabre North District, and Afigya Kwabre South District—mostly passes through greenfield.

As part of a one-day working visit to the Ashanti Region earlier this week, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, examined the project.

The Kumasi Outer Ring Road is intended to support the Suame Interchange project, according to Hon. Agbodza.

By rerouting long-distance transport vehicles that move between the north and south, these initiatives taken together will greatly reduce traffic in Kumasi.

The Minister asked the contractor to make sure the project is finished by 2027.
The contractor is currently setting up its site camp and removing the Right of Way (ROW).

Evaluation of impacted homes and structures, acquisition ROW, and community interaction with local Chiefs and Project Affected Persons (PAPs) are all ongoing.

The Minister has received assurances from the contractor that the project will be finished on time.
