Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has a committee has to look investigate the circumstances surrounding the pregnant woman’s death at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital.
According to reports, the woman, known as Abigail Opoku, passed away on Sunday, April 26, after allegedly being refused a caesarean section because the recovery ward did not have enough beds.
The Directorate said in a statement released on April 29 that it had started a comprehensive investigation and was handling the situation with “utmost seriousness.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic loss,” the statement read.
The Regional Health Directorate, the Office of the Attorney-General, the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, and the Regional Coordinating Council comprise the investigative committee, according to the Directorate.

The committee’s job is to evaluate the events leading up to the death in a “thorough, objective, and transparent” manner and submit its findings and recommendations for public release.
Health officials have asked people to remain composed and to let due process proceed unhindered.
The Health Services reiterated its dedication to providing high-quality treatment, especially for mothers and children, and to patient safety.
