The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) states that it has completed more than half of the corridor-clearing work for the proposed Accra-Kumasi Motorway, putting the major infrastructure project one step closer to building.

As of June 25, 2026, engineers had cleared 89.5 kilometres of the approved path, or 50.9% of the 175.6-kilometer corridor intended for the motorway, according to the most recent status report.

Colonel Alex Twumasi, the project manager and coordinator, stated that the military engineering team was tasked with clearing and stripping a 120-meter-wide right-of-way in order to get the site ready for the start of the road project.

He clarified that the corridor-clearing exercise was supposed to take 20 weeks, but after just nine weeks of labour, the crew had already exceeded the halfway point.

Col. Twumasi was optimistic that the remaining 86.1 km would be finished in the following 13 weeks, keeping the project on track to finish on schedule.

Before full-scale building starts, the corridor-clearing exercise is thought of as a crucial preparatory step that gives contractors the access they need.

When finished, the Accra–Kumasi Motorway is anticipated to revolutionise road transportation between Ghana’s two biggest cities by cutting travel times, enhancing passenger and cargo flow, and relieving traffic on the current route.

The project is one of the government’s top transport infrastructure goals, with the goal of enhancing national connectivity and fostering economic expansion.
