The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has reaffirmed its commitment to digital transformation, education and community development following the commissioning of a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory and internet connectivity facility at Apeguso in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The facility, established through the Agri-Impact Group, was commissioned on Friday, August 14, 2026, in a ceremony attended by chiefs and elders, community leaders, teachers, pupils, members of the Agri-Impact team and other stakeholders.

New ICT Lab to Improve Digital Access in Apeguso

The newly commissioned ICT laboratory and internet facility is expected to expand access to digital resources and improve learning opportunities for pupils and teachers while also benefiting residents of the Apeguso community.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mr. Kwame Oppong Ntim emphasised the growing importance of technology in Ghana’s development.

He noted that digital technology has become increasingly important in areas such as education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, business development and access to information.

According to him, providing communities with modern digital tools can help develop a skilled, innovative and productive generation capable of contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.

Government Highlights Importance of Digital Transformation

Mr. Oppong Ntim explained that although the Minister could not personally attend the commissioning due to other official engagements, her commitment to the development of Apeguso and the wellbeing of its residents remained strong.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between government, private organisations and local communities in expanding digital education and internet access in Ghana.

The new facility is expected to give pupils and teachers greater opportunities to develop essential computer skills, digital literacy and technology-based learning capabilities.

Longstanding Friendship Highlighted at Commissioning

The Minister also acknowledged her longstanding relationship with Mrs. Joyce Acquaye, wife of Agri-Impact Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Daniel Acquaye.

Their relationship, which dates back several decades, was described as being built on friendship, shared experiences and mutual support.

The Minister recalled that their journey together began during their primary and secondary school years and continued through university, where they were roommates.

She further highlighted Mrs. Acquaye’s influence in her life, including introducing her to the Christian hymn “Oben Me Kyɛn Ma Danfo,” which remains a cherished symbol of their shared faith and friendship.

ICT Facility Dedicated to Memory of Late Mother

The commissioning of the Apeguso ICT laboratory and internet connectivity facility was also held in honour of the memory of the late mother of Agri-Impact Group CEO, Dr. Daniel Acquaye.

The initiative is expected to create a lasting educational resource for the community while supporting students and teachers in accessing digital information and educational materials.

Teachers and Pupils Urged to Protect ICT Equipment

The Minister urged teachers and pupils at Apeguso to take proper care of the facility and ensure that the computers and other equipment are responsibly maintained.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to use the resources to improve learning, digital skills, research and knowledge acquisition.

The commissioning represents another step toward expanding digital inclusion in Ghana, particularly by providing communities outside major urban centres with access to technology and reliable internet connectivity.
