Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transportation, received a courtesy call from a delegation from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Foundation and Transaid, led by Programs Manager Aggie Krasnolucka, inviting him to the upcoming Safe African Helmet Initiative (SAHI) summit in Accra in August.
Approximately nine nations will attend the conference to discuss helmet safety and more general road safety infrastructure projects.
In keeping with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries by 50% by 2030, Ms. Krasnolucka described the Foundation’s purpose to promote safer, more accessible, and affordable mobility.
She added that the FIA has set up a Helmet Testing Laboratory to assist in differentiating authorised and authentic helmets from fake ones.
Hon. Bukari Nikpe welcomed the group and said that if people realised how important it is to wear high-quality helmets, many lives would be saved.
He stated that the Ministry is prepared to collaborate with the FIA Foundation and Transaid and that the government is launching a national education campaign on the newly passed Road Traffic Amendment Act 2025 (Act 1153) and the Road Traffic Regulation, 2026 (L.I. 2519).
