A 47-year-old father was sentenced to 20 years in jail by a Circuit Court in Lawra for sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter and threatening to kill her.
Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu was found guilty of incest and threatening death after a lengthy trial on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei.
After a complaint was filed, the Lawra District Police effectively investigated and prosecuted the crime, according to a statement released by the Upper West Regional Police Command on Sunday, July 26.
The girl, a junior high school student, had been sexually abused by her father for a long time, according to investigations.
According to the police, the prisoner also threatened to kill his daughter if she reported the abuse to anybody.
“The conviction follows investigation and prosecution by the Lawra District Police, upon a complaint, which established that the convict has sexually abused his 17-year biological daughter, JHS student, over an extended period amid threats of death if she ever disclosed his escapades to anyone,” the statement said.
Ti-Zaaekuu was sentenced separately for each of the two charges after his conviction.
“The Court sentenced the convict to twenty (20) years imprisonment for incest and ten (10) years imprisonment for threat of death, both sentences to run concurrently In Hard Labour,” the police stated.
The offender will serve 20 years in prison if the sentences are served concurrently.
While commending the officers who oversaw the investigation and prosecution of the case, the court also mandated that the Lawra Department of Social Welfare offer the survivor counselling and psychosocial support.
The Command also asked the public to report domestic and sexual abuse incidents to the police as soon as possible so that the proper measures could be taken.
